Good call on the declined listings - I usually also protect them, too, to keep them from getting re-posted, but leave the talk pages unprotected. (looks like you did one? Or was that me). That guy with the hidden spam was really annoying. I took the aggressive approach and blocked both domains. I'm thinking of changing the code and making the spam blocker globally more aggressive... any opinions? Thanks,--Aerik Sylvan 12:13, 12 Dec 2005 (PST)
- You did both of them. I just added them to the declined listings category to get them off the uncategorized pages list. I've only declined a couple of listings. One was a site selling anabolic steroids. (I just protected it.) The other was called ebooks-download.us. I couldn't find any ebook downloads on the site, nothing but advertising. I know you want the directory to be inclusive, not limited to only the best, but I figure that the site description should at least be truthful.
- I expect the spam problem is only going to get worse. Blocking the domains one at a time could become quite labor intensive! Not to mention frustratingly ineffective...

- Yeah, manually blocking the domains is gonna get a little old - I do have some things running that block some of the spam, but you don't see them :-) Notice that you never see whole pages of urls pasted in? I'm working on a few other filters as well - I figure the less time we have to spend reverting spam, the more time we can spend actually editing entries. Categories in Spain
Jean, I did not actually create all of those. I, too, was trying to straighten them out. But I think you are right, we should probably let Aerik sort them out.
- No sweat - It'll take me a bit of time to get to, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the head's up! --Aerik Sylvan 10:36, 10 Jan 2006 (MST)
Whould we lock category pages?
Hi, I was wondering - what do you think - should we protect the 2nd level category pages (everything under "universe")? Might cut down a bit on the spam / vandalism / mistakes. Whatcha think? --Aerik Sylvan 17:59, 4 Feb 2006 (MST)
- But it would also prevent contributors from categorizing any new categories that they add. -Jean 17:11, 6 Feb 2006 (MST)
