Gokrida: The play of five
Description: The Game About Nothing. Well, not really. It's an online game which has an active user base of only about 200 players, yet those players all are extremely dedicated, or possibly "addicted," although that has somewhat of a negative connotation. The word GoKrida is a compound of the Japanese word for "Five," "go;" and the Sanskrit word meaning "Play," "krida." Hence the name, "The Play of Five." In GoKrida, players start out with a number of "minor souls," which are affectionately called "peeps" by players. These can be settled on squares, or hexes, for the map system is a hexagonal one, with there being 6 directions: North, Northwest, West, South, Southeast, and East. There are no "Northeast" or "Southwest" directions. Some worlds have around 200 squares, others have only 37 (the latter are called Escape Worlds, created by a Major Soul [a.k.a. player] with 580 Spiritual Energy). Each player gets one Spiritual Energy per day, unless they donate to the game, in which case, they get an additional 7 S.E. per $1 that they donate. There are many different land types, each for the five different elements: Earth, Water, Leaf, Sky, and Metal. Each has its own unique advantages, terrains, knowledges, and skills.
Each player can learn different "knowledges" which allow different actions. Each action has an "associated skill," and when the actions of a particular "associated skill" are used, the player gets more experienced in those areas. Different elements excel in different skill areas, although most skill areas are open to all elements. Skills can do anything from changing terrain, to creating an item, to killing another player.
There is no "beating" GoKrida. Some play to get higher skill levels, or stats, and others play for the political aspect, with alliances and whatnot. Others make it their life aspiration to acquire land, while still others play solely to kill other players, although they are a very small minority. Basically, the game is whatever the player wants it to be.
