Asia occupies the eastern part of the Eurasian land mass. Its size is 17,378,140 square miles, and it is located in the northern part of the Eastern Hemisphere. To the east lies the North Pacific Ocean and to the west lies Europe. The Arctic Ocean lies to the north, while the Indian Ocean lies to the south. Australia is situated to the southeast and Africa is situated to the southwest. Asia's 2001 population was estimated at 3,754,689,000.
